PS5 Slim Disc Edition with 825GB Storage Coming to India This Week
The Indian console hardware market is currently experiencing a deliberate supply chain transition. Over the past several weeks, consumers and distributors have observed a widespread depletion of the standard 1TB PlayStation 5 Slim Disc Edition. This inventory gap is not an arbitrary supply failure, but a calculated transitional phase preceding a new hardware deployment.
This week, the revised PlayStation 5 Slim Disc Edition (CFI-2108A) is officially arriving in the Indian market, reintroducing the 825GB primary storage capacity.
The Digital Edition Anomaly
Market fragmentation is common during iterative hardware revisions. While the global supply chain has seen storage capacity adjustments across both console variations, the Indian market presents a specific operational anomaly: the PS5 Slim Digital Edition currently in distribution retains its 1TB storage configuration. At present, the shift to 825GB in India is strictly isolated to the incoming stock of the Disc Edition.
Primary Hardware Modifications (CFI-2100 Series)
This “Chassis E” iteration represents an optimization in manufacturing rather than a performance degradation. The core SoC architecture (6nm AMD Zen 2 / RDNA 2) remains mathematically identical, ensuring zero variance in computational performance, frame pacing, or graphical output. The prominent physical and hardware-level alterations include:
- Storage Reallocation (825GB NVMe SSD): The internal solid-state drive capacity has been adjusted from 1TB back to 825GB, yielding approximately 667GB of usable sector space post-OS formatting. The PCIe Gen 4 M.2 expansion slot remains fully integrated and functional, allowing users to independently scale their storage parameters.
- Uniform Matte Finish: The preceding CFI-2000 series featured a split aesthetic with glossy upper plastic panels. The new CFI-2100 series utilizes a 100% matte finish across all four exterior panels. From a material science perspective, this matte surface is vastly superior at resisting micro-abrasions and lipid transfers (fingerprints), increasing the console’s long-term aesthetic durability.
- Thermal and Mass Optimization: The internal heatsink geometry and copper heat pipe routing have been re-engineered for manufacturing efficiency. This reduces the overall mass of the Disc Edition to approximately 3.08 kg (roughly 120 grams lighter), while maintaining identical thermal dissipation rates and acoustic decibel outputs under load.
Market Availability & Pricing
As the incoming CFI-2108A units replace the depleted 1TB stock, the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) holds firm at ₹54,990. Consumers prioritizing the structural benefits of the all-matte finish and updated thermal design should inspect the retail packaging for the new CFI-2108A model identifier.
