GTA 6 NEWS • UPDATED OCTOBER 28, 2026
Rockstar’s biggest launch ever is just three weeks away, and a lot of players are about to get an unpleasant surprise in their storage menu. Here’s the number everyone is talking about.
THE REPORTED GTA 6 FILE SIZE
Not officially confirmed by Rockstar yet. Treat it as the number to plan around.
The GTA 6 file size is reported at around 210GB, which would make it one of the biggest games you can install on a console. Leaks of a Rockstar development build point to a similar 200GB+ figure, though final console downloads are often compressed to be smaller.
Heads up: Rockstar hasn’t published an official download size. Expect day-one patches to add a few extra GB on top of the base install.
A 210GB install is less surprising once you look at what Rockstar is building. For comparison, the PS5 version of GTA 5 already needs about 96GB.
Rockstar North has said the map is roughly twice the size of GTA 5’s open world.
High-resolution textures, dense cities and realistic characters take up a lot of space.
Voice lines, music and cinematics add gigabytes before you even start playing.
Launch patches usually stack extra GB on top of the base game.
Plan for the reported 210GB plus a 20GB buffer for patches and save data. Consoles can also slow down when the drive is almost full.

Preload opens for pre-order buyers, a week before launch.
GTA 6 releases on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version has no confirmed date.
Preloading means you can play the moment the game unlocks instead of waiting on a 210GB download. Haven’t reserved yet? Read our GTA 6 pre-order guide or catch up on the GTA 6 delay timeline.
1. Delete old games. Anything you haven’t played in months can be re-downloaded later.
2. Move clips and screenshots. Send captures to a USB drive or the cloud.
3. Clear updates and cache. Old patch files quietly eat gigabytes.
4. Add an expandable SSD. The easiest fix if your console storage is small.
5. Use a wired connection. It makes the preload faster and more stable.
Lock in your copy and get your console set up before November 19.

How many GB is GTA 6?
It’s reported at around 210GB, but Rockstar hasn’t confirmed the official size.
Can I preload GTA 6?
Pre-order buyers can start preloading on November 12, a week before the November 19 launch.
Will the PC version be the same size?
There’s no confirmed PC release date yet, so the PC size is unknown.
Will GTA 6 get bigger after launch?
Almost certainly. Patches and future online content usually add to the install size.
210GB is a lot, but it’s a fair price for a game this big. Clear your storage now, set up your preload, and you’ll be ready on day one. We’ll update this post if Rockstar confirms the official size.
